Sunday night service was so encouraging! It was so nice to be with family, to share a meal, share some praise. It was good to be able to share with one and other about the good things God is doing, the hard things we are facing and the wonderful expectations we have for God’s continued work in our lives!
Do you ever feel like something just really naturally fits? As we were doing the sharing exercise together Forest said something that really stuck out to me. When asked what he looked forward to in the coming week he said, “Nothing in particular comes to mind, I am just gonna’ go with the flow.”
It got me to thinking, a dangerous game indeed. How often do we get 100% ahead of ourselves in expectations of what God is doing? It made me think about how that question might have been a flawed one. Perhaps the better question is, what does it seem like God is doing in your life, that you might be more attentive to next week?
There is a deep part of my soul that holds tightly to just going with the flow of things. Order, foresight, administration, and all around thinking, are things that my mind just don’t seem to do very naturally on its own. So to me this statement by Forest speaks deep.
What if we put our own expectations away and were able to look at what God might be doing around us, and simply found a way or two that we could join in that work? What if we simply asked God for a practical way to be part of HIS kingdom work?
It is this question that I would suggest you think and pray on this week as you hear a sermon, as you talk to neighbors, as you shop and drive, work and play. How is it that God is working in your sphere of influence and what are some ways you can join? I think about this because there are plenty of ministry chances we get lobbed each day. I know that there are things we do as a church I am more and less involved in, some seem flashy and like I will
enjoy them, some seem like work.
It seems to me like my own selfishness seems to direct my attention on what “ministry” or work I will do for God. Like I am at a grocery store picking out only the types of work that feel like chocolate milk! What say you to this, how about for the next week we both look for the things God is doing, and regardless of “fun-level” we ask how we can be a part of that work.
Go with the flow. Our God is working and moving. Best hop onto that train.
